Big Apple arrival

Sitting in a shuttle bus headed toward our hotel Westin at Times Square, I am struck by the intensity of the city. Countless cars, yellow cabs, honking, colorful people and energy everywhere you look.
The hotel is really central, but they could improve on the decor on the floors. It's too dark and outdated.
One thing I will never understand is why trash bags pile up on the street. It's an eyesore! Haven't they heard about trash containers? See picture.
